In the meantime I'd got the email address of the Chief Exec of Samsung UK and decided to send an email about the whole experience. The engineer gave me a call and the date to replace the main board in the TV was arranged. So she said it wasn't worth getting an engineer to come out,I said this wasn't good enough if there wasn't a fix I wanted a TV that would work or some way of recording without problems such as a Humax box,to expect me to wait for a fix is not acceptable.Īfter being passed to someone else at Samsung I was told that an engineer would come out as he disagreed with his colleague about a known problem. The whole family use the TV for recording programmes and using apps so recordings failing if you use apps is not acceptable.Īnyway I finally spoke to someone who explained that this has been an issue they've known about with these TV's for a while and they'd no known fix! I only started to get to the bottom of things after saying I wanted to speak to someone higher up as things were getting no where and I'm left with a TV I can't use how it's supposed to be. I've been treated terribly by Samsung, I've spoken to Samsung support many times had the usual fixes tried such as factory reset app reset etc. Have a look at this thread: and this one to see how to increase swap space.The Problem starting happening with every app on the TV,recordings always fail if an app is being used. Both apps require a lot of RAM, and the only way we can kind of work aroud that is to increase the amount of swap space. It is basically the same problem as with CrashPlan. If you have more apps installed, then you are pretty much guaranteed to have Plex being killed by the operating system for grabbing too much memory.
What has happened is that over time Plex has become a huge memory hog, and basically it still runs well on the 5N if it is the only app running.
Mind you, this will only make sure that Plex runs, not that it will run well. The workaround is to increase the swap space from its original 256 MB to something like 1 or even 2 GB. By very large I mean a few thousand files. The problem is that the default Drobo 5N configuration does not have enough swap space to handle Plex with a very large collection.
